So, whether you are looking for a structured upper body workout class or just getting started with strength training, there is a place for you here.
WHY TRY AN UPPER BODY STRENGTH CLASS?
Upper body strength is useful far beyond the gym floor. Strong shoulders, arms and back support everyday movements most people take for granted. And when you train consistently with proper guidance, the results can change how you move, how you feel and how you show up in everything else you do.
The benefits of regular upper body strength training may include:

BUILD UPPER BODY STRENGTH WITH A FREE WORKOUT CLASS!
Strength training can feel intimidating when you are not sure where to start. What exercises should you do? How heavy should you go? Are you doing the movement properly? How do you train your upper body without just guessing your way around the gym floor? And what’s the best way to stay consistent?
That is where our Upper Body classes come in.
This PE@PF class gives you a simple, guided way to train your upper body with the support of a Planet Fitness trainer. You will move through strength-focused exercises helping you build strength, confidence and consistency, while working toward your own goals at your own pace.
It is not about being the strongest person in the room; it’s about showing up, moving well and building upper body strength in a way that feels great, achievable and easy to include in your routine.
WHAT IS THE UPPER BODY CLASS AT PLANET FITNESS?
Upper Body is a strength-focused PE@PF class that runs for 45 minutes, and is designed to help members train the muscles of the upper body, including the chest, back, shoulders and arms.
The classes are trainer-led, small group sessions built around push and pull movements. You might use weights (such as dumbbells, kettlebells or plates), resistance equipment or bodyweight exercises, or most likely, a combination of all three. Together, these movement patterns help create a balanced upper body workout.
If you are searching for strength classes or an upper body workout class at the gym, this is a great place to start. We also offer Lower Body, Burn and Core classes too – you can check out all PE@PF classes here.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN UPPER BODY CLASS?
Every Upper Body class is run by one of our PF trainers, which means the session is guided, structured and adapted to the group in the room on the day.
The class is built around push and pull movement patterns, the two fundamentals of upper body training. Push movements generally involve pressing weight away from your body, targeting your chest, shoulders and triceps. Pull movements involve drawing weight towards you, working your back and biceps.
The class may be held on the gym floor or functional training. The specific exercises will vary depending on your trainer and what works best for the group, but the focus stays the same: building upper body strength in a way that is structured, supportive and easy to follow. The class may use weights, resistance equipment and bodyweight exercises, depending on what your trainer has planned for the day.
Your trainer will explain each exercise, show you how the movements work and offer modifications if something feels too challenging.
IS THE UPPER BODY CLASS GOOD FOR BEGINNERS?
Yes. Upper Body is great if you are new to strength training, but it is not only for beginners.
The class is designed to be approachable, with trainer guidance and options to modify where needed. If you are new, it can help you learn the basics, build confidence and get familiar with upper body exercises in a supportive environment.
You can go at your own pace, ask questions and focus on moving well before worrying about lifting heavier or doing more. It is also a great option for members who want structure, accountability and a quick, focused session that helps them build upper body strength progressively.
Whether you are learning the foundations or looking for a guided way to stay consistent, Upper Body gives you a clear plan, trainer support and a focused strength session you can keep coming back to.
